I have 2 monitors that support a 1440p resolution, here are the details:
Monitor 1:
ACER G257HU smidpx
Current resolution: 1920x1080
Connected via: HDMI
Extra info: For some reason, the 2560x1440 resolution isn't showing on the Display settings.
Monitor 2:
ACER G257HU smidpx
Current resolution: 1920x1080
Connected via: DVI
Extra info: This monitor shows the 2560x1440 resolution on the Display settings, but the moment I change it, the screen goes black. The monitor is still recognized, however.
My graphics card info is the following:
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series]
My problem is: I'm trying to get the 2560x1440 resolution to work. I tried following this guide: https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo but it still turns black when I try to update it on the second monitor, and the resolution still isn't showing on the first one. I'm using Debian 9.
Is there any way to fix this?

some radeon boards have different (lower) available resolutions over hdmi, and some boards combine DAC in a way that you can't get max on two outputs at the same time. Depends on the board and how much memory?

I'm not so sure your hardware will drive the hdmi past 19200x1200. I'm not so sure it will drive the dvi past that either as monitor 2.
So first verify 1440 on DVI as SINGLE monitor, I would do that to make sure your hardware works, then enable the hdmi and investigate.

I've had good luck with VGA and DVI-D multi monitor setup or DVI-I and HDMI, but two digital or two analog outputs on radeons at one time has never worked well for me. Just tried this, it appears to be the issue. The monitor goes black, but the signal is still going.I'm not so sure your hardware will drive the hdmi past 19200x1200. I'm not so sure it will drive the dvi past that either as monitor 2.
Once I get the chance, I'll try it. If it doesn't work, I think I might leave it at 1920x1080 on both monitors. It isn't that bad, to be honest.I haven't used displayport at all, might be an option?
