Lost my alternate consoles

#1 Post by mabra »

Hallo!
I have just changed the following line in "sysctl.conf"
>#kernel.printk = 3 4 1 3
and made it active (removed the "#" comment char at beginning).
The reason was: all my consoles where flooted with messages.
Rebootet.
The message flood was there again, but I am no longer able
to switch into one of the possible consoles (don't remember the
keys - but this was never the problem for me [shift/ctrl or wahtever]).
Reset the "sysctl.conf" file to its original and rebootet again.

Have no longer the other consoles.
What I originally wanted to achive: Use "dmesg -n 1" inside of one of the
other consoles to get rid of the message flood.

The main problem now is, that the consoles are no longer present.
Have no clue, where to look for this!

Thanks anyway,
Manfred

Hi !

Hmm, are you really asking, if I am able to use nano and add/remove a character (#)??

BTW, in the following research, I was able to set the following statement to be a comment:

Code: Select all

#net.ipv4.conf.all.log_martians = 1
The most of the message stopped then.
After getting rid of the flood, I saw, that I was able to really change the consoles (which
was my original question) - the login prompt was just not to see in the message flood.
The problem originally appears while experimenting with some new network interfaces
and their routes.

Thanks anyway,
Manfred
