amdgpu on kernel 4.19

Postby arielvtpma » 2019-01-23 05:07

My debian stretch boots fine with kernel 4.18 with the amdgpu driver on my R7 260X (BONAIRE XTX).
It does not boot with kernel 4.19 because it could not find the bonaire driver on firmware/amdgpu.

To solve this I copied the BONAIRE driver from firmware/radeon to firmware/amdgpu.

I don't know if this is a good solution.

Thanks in advance

You could also try the newer firmware-amd-graphics from Buster or the backported version here: ... n_9.0/all/

which also have that fix:

Code: Select all
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Foliate 1.5.3, Minitube 3.1, wine-staging 4.12, Virtual Box 5.2.32 & 6.0.10, Pale Moon 28.6.1, Waterfox 56.2.12

At this time, I would consider installing Buster. It has entered transition freeze and will be in soft freeze in about 2 weeks.
Release is anticipated about 10 days after Full Freeze - about 2 months.

The usual freeze period is about six months, although it does vary, so I would expect Debian 10 to be released in September(ish).
