Does Debian have NSA modules installed?

Postby stark » 2019-07-28 01:28

Hi, does Debian kernel 4.19 have any NSA modules installed, and how can I disable the speck module?

You should see all installed crypto modules by commnad
Code: Select all
ls -l /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/crypto/
How to disable module: wiki.ArchLinux.org: Kernel module: Blacklisting

Thanks, would the ubuntu method also work to disable it on debian

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1067399 ... tion-speck

I assume theirs no other know NSA or Backdoors in Debian and that it is not owned by the NSA as suggested here

The speck kernel module was removed for v4.20: http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kern ... 06067.html

It looks like Debian have backported this for their stable LTS branch:
Code: Select all
E485:~$ grep SPECK /boot/config-4.19.0-5-amd64
E485:~1$ lsmod | grep speck
E485:~1$ sudo modprobe -v speck
modprobe: FATAL: Module speck not found in directory /lib/modules/4.19.0-5-amd64
E485:~1$
