HardDisk wont allow directorys -/- files

Postby Data007 » 2019-09-17 15:20

Hi I have limited knowledge here about Configuring Debian 10 and Linux in general.

I have a hard drive in the machine which I have formatted to ext4 file system, it has a lost and found directory on it thats all, I belive that the Lost and found directory is normal.
I cant make directorys/folders in/on the drive in Dolphin(KDE) in fact I cant do anything with it. It was formatted in a gparted.
when trying to make to make a directory on it I get "Could not make folder /media/xxx/e37518b3-0807-4e07-afd2-56d6ea48191a/New Folder."

I have tried everything I know to make it work even tampering with fstab makes no difference.

Formatting it will make the entire volume belong to root. As a normal user, you won't have access to it.
Open a terminal and type:
Code: Select all
sudo chown -R data007:data007 /media/xxx/e37518b3-0807-4e07-afd2-56d6ea48191a/

Repalce 'data007' by your username and '/media/xxx/e37518b3-0807-4e07-afd2-56d6ea48191a/' by the proper mount point of your ext4 volume if it's not correct.
After that, you can close the terminal and use the ext4 volume to your heart's content.
