System freezes - suspect Nvidia driver - Debian 9 Stretch

Postby henka » 2019-10-05 10:27

My system freezes seemingly at random and I have to force a shutdown by turning off power-supply or holding the power button in for a while. Sometimes the computer will reboot after this, other times it won't turn properly on again after this and I have to reset my BIOS to get it going again.
I have found people who have had similar problems have had issues with their graphics card driver I might have messed up installing Nvidia drivers to get a game to work. He solved it by going back to the nouveau driver - something I don't know how to do.
So here's what I got.
Code: Select all
~$ lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 3GB] (rev a1)
Subsystem: NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 3GB]
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nvidia
