Periodic issues: commands preceeded by sudo stall

Postby alexanderbeerhoff » 2019-10-05 16:42

Hi, periodically I have this problem, seems once per day. Wifi connection goes off and when I try
Code: Select all
nmcli radio wifi on

after a while I get timeout error creating NMClient object, then I have problems with command preceeded by sudo: after return the command remains suspended like it was still in execution, same from console but no problem if I login from other console as root. Problem goes away after reboot.
In kern.log look for something related:
Code: Select all
iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Microcode SW error detected.  Restarting 0x82000000.

I'm on HP notebook 255 G6 with linux kernel 5.3.0 compiled by myself so probably some bad .config changes (I would attach .config but got server internal error)

Thanks for attention and best regards

For the stall try haveged. For the dropouts try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless#iwlwifi

today at 17.05 had the two symptoms so rebooted with distro kernel 5.2.0-3-amd64 and installed haveged. Let's wait until tomorrow 17.05 to see if came back.

Missed this bit. Try to reproduce with a stable kernel. Which version of Debian is this anyway?

With distro kernel and havaged installed the problem comes no more (even if in these days I've kept computer asleep more than earlier). Any ideas of what area in kernel config environment cloud cause these kind of problems?

Compare the two configurations:
Code: Select all
pager /boot/config-4.19*

Have you exposed /proc/config.gz in your kernel?

I'm running debian testing with distro kernel 5.2; seems haveged has solved my issue since after I've installed it, also with kernel 5.3 configured by myself, I have no problem (also added as module in .config Device driver->char device->Hardware Random Number Generator Core support->amd-rng).
Have you exposed /proc/config.gz in your kernel?

Access to .config through /proc/config.gz is not enabled.
