Soft lockup CPU#0 stuck [swapper/0:0]

#1 Post by garrmark »

There is tons of posts regarding this problem, but we found not single one that offers a solution or a work-around. Can anyone please help with this?

Debian virtual machine keeps crashing with:

kernel: [5468.975766] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for ###s! [swapper/0:0].

We utilize Oracle Virtual Box (6.0.14)
on WIN-10
Dell Latitude 5300 CPU: Intel i7-8665U @1.90 Ghz.

We have several OSs as gusts such as: Mint, Manjaro, and Debian 10.1 with kernel as reported by uname -a:
4.19.0-6amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u1 (2019-09-20) X86_64 GNU/Linux

All other guests are working fine, but Debian keeps crashing.

It seems that this is a known bug, and it seems that it has been fixed in prior kernels, but it seems to keep coming back based on all the posts.

We have tried to make this system as bare bones as possible. We are even running it in command line mode only (without any desktop), and we do not have any applications installed aside from what comes with the minimal Debian installation.

Thank you all for any help you can provide. Is there any service or any process we can disable or change a parameter to stop the system from crashing?
