Android Galaxy S9 can't connect to Debian Wi-Fi hotspot if i

Postby kopax » 2019-11-02 12:12

I try to connect to a Wi-Fi password-secured hotspot using an Android Galaxy S9 device.

My Android smartphone says
Code: Select all
incorrect password.

The hotspot kernel logs output says
Code: Select all
 iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: Unhandled alg: 0x707

- It works from a linux Debian client.
- It works if I disable the wifi security password.

The hotspot is on kernel :
Code: Select all
Linux hotspot 4.19.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u1 (2019-09-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux
with the following network configuration:

Code: Select all
[connection]
id=Hotspot
uuid=ae69d962-c14b-4fbd-a2c4-71dc92a9aaeb
type=wifi
autoconnect=false
permissions=
timestamp=1572639190

[wifi]
mac-address=50:E0:85:83:2B:2E
mac-address-blacklist=
mode=ap
seen-bssids=50:E0:85:83:2B:2E;
ssid=dka

[wifi-security]
key-mgmt=wpa-psk
psk=12345678

[ipv4]
dns-search=
method=shared

[ipv6]
addr-gen-mode=stable-privacy
dns-search=
ip6-privacy=0
method=shared

The access point hardware is a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 7 (2019) running on Debian Buster.

It uses the Wifi card (Model: [INTEL® WIRELESS-AC 9560](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... kw=ac+9560)) for creating the hotspot network and have internet connection through the modem WWAN (Model: [Fibocom L850-GL](http://www.fibocom.com/prod_view.aspx?t ... id=t3:31:3), see [`TechnicalSpecification-L850GL.pdf`](http://www.fibocom.com/Private/ProductF ... c1ad40.pdf) for more detail) and a 4G nano sim card.

On a guess, I'd say that
Code: Select all
Unhandled alg
suggests an unsupported cipher.

This is a security concern and should be fixed, it can add unwanted fee if an unwanted person connect to the unsecured network. I hope someone has a fix to share.

Does anybody have an idea on how to repair the secured wifi so I can connect using my Android smartphone?
