netselect-apt fails behind CGN

Postby infestor » 2020-04-09 16:11

g'day,

i used to run
Code: Select all
netselect-apt
just fine but today i got this error:

Code: Select all
Did not found any valid hosts (you requested 10)
netselect was unable to find a mirror, this probably means that
you are behind a firewall and it is blocking ICMP and/or
UDP traceroute. Or the servers test are actively blocking
ICMP and/or UDP traceroute probes.

i am behind a CGN (carrier grade NAT)
how can i solve this issue?

I have no experience with CGN but have you tried http://deb.debian.org/? That should automatically redirect you to the fastest local mirror, no need for netselect-apt.

thanks
a more elegant solution than running netselect-apt every week or so.

This claim sounds optimistic.

^ Perhaps but the Debian developers clearly trust the content delivery network, deb.debian.org is the pre-selected default mirror for any location in the current stable installer.
