[RESOLVED] Cannot view GUI application with X11 Forwarding

Postby simon_lefisch » 2020-04-28 17:33

Hey everyone,

So I'm having an X11 forwarding issue that I cannot for the life of me figure out. I have a Debian 10 box running in CLI mode that I use for encoding movies with HandBrake, all is running well. Recently I decided that since decrypting my DVDs is a pita in my Windows 10 VM (located on my CentOS 7 box), I would install MakeMKV. So I installed Snap then the MakeMKV app. The issue is I cannot view the MakeMKV GUI over my SSH connection. I copied the settings I have for my CentOS 7 box (since I use virt-manager/etc) and all looks to be ok. However when I run makemkv, I get the following error:

I've googled this and from what I can find there doesn't seem to be anything wrong in my config. I have X11Forwarding and X11UseLocalHost enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. Is there something I'm missing? the debug shows something about wrong authentication but not really sure what to look for. Any info provided would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like installing MakeMKV via Snap was causing the issue. I ran apt purge makemkv and apt purge snapd, then apt auto remove --purge which removed a bunch of un-needed packages. Made sure to all packages that were installed by installing snapd were deleted. I then compiled MakeMKV following directions from the website and was able to bring up the GUI over SSH. *peachy*
