RTL8723BE on Debian Testing (Bullseye)

Postby racquad » 2020-06-05 16:05

Hi guys,

I have a HP laptop that has a Realtek wifi.

03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8723BE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter

I'm currently using Debian 10 and I have successfully compiled the module into my kernel

Linux hp 4.19.0-9-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.118-2 (2020-04-29) x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have configured a file to set up the correct antenna:
/etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf -> options rtl8723be ant_sel=1

It's working fine in this configuration. The problem is that I wanted to give Bullseye a try. This OS version recognizes my Wifi but can't list any access point. I've tried to load ant_sel=2 and nothing.

The problem is that the git repository that stored the kernel module is down. The guy removed saying that kernel 5+ already has the right driver (which is not working).

So:
1) It's not a hardware problem because when I come back to Debian 10 it works
2) The OS loads the correct driver rtl8723be but can't find any antenna

Does anyone else is facing something similar? Any clue on how to solve it?

Best regards

Did you install firmware-realtek from the non-free repository?
