Can connect VPN via Terminal but not Network Connections

Postby AR15USR » 2020-06-11 22:11

Hello,
I am able to connect to my VPN provider via the Terminal (using openvpn) just fine with the supplied .ovpn config file using:
Code: Select all
sudo openvpn --config 'name-of-file.ovpn'

When I create a VPN connection via the Network Connections sys settings module it will not connect. I have tried importing the .ovpn supplied by the vpn provider as well as creating a fresh vpn connection and inputting the settings manually. Neither works.

I'm running Debian 10 all up to date as of today, KDE Plasma 5.14.5. on an Intel Core i5 with a gigabit fiber connection. Internet connection works fine as is.

I'd like to get the connection in the sys module to work so I can connect/disconnect as needed via the system tray.

Any ideas?

Are you using Networkmanager? I believe this is not supported entirely.

Thanks for the info. After looking through that I installed 'network-manager-openvpn' and it works via the tray now. Thanks..

Not sure what you mean by "trial VPN services". If you mean was I trying a free vpn trial, then no.

All I had to do is install 'network-manager-openvpn' from my distro's repository..
