Best 32 bit kernel on AMD 64

#1 Post by jamesman »

Linux noob here with a dumb question. :D I’m running an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard with an AMD 64 +3500 processor. I’m not really interested in running a 64 bit OS as there are really no applications out for it yet. What would be the best 32 bit kernel to use with Debian? Thanks in advance. :)

The combination of a 64-bit CPU and a 64-bit kernel should have no problems executing 32-bit applications. On the other hand, I would be concerned about stability and efficiency of a 64-bit CPU driven by kernel designed to drive a 32-bit CPU.

The obvious (Testing) candidates are:
kernel-image-2.6.11-9-amd64-k8
kernel-image-2.6.11-1-k7
