Why do I get kernel 4.19+105+deb10u5

Postby fred44nl » 2020-07-13 07:55

at this moment uname -a tells me
Code: Select all
fred44nl@Debian:~$ uname -a
Linux Debian 4.19.0-9-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.118-2+deb10u1 (2020-06-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux

when I have "proposed-updates" active in /etc/apt/sources.list, I can upgrade to
Code: Select all
linux-image-amd64/proposed-updates 4.19+105+deb10u5 amd64 [opwaardeerbaar van: 4.19+105+deb10u4]

this seems strange and looks like a downgrade from 4.19.118 to 4.19.105

could some one explain this to me ??

Different packages, different version schemes.
linux-image-4.19.0-9-amd64 is the actual kernel.
linux-image-amd64 is the meta-package which depends on the former.

yes, ok
but when I look at Debian Package Tracker, I see that "stable p-u" would be 4.9.131-2
and that's where my confusion comes from.

4.19.131-2 is the version of linux-image-4.19.0-9-amd64.
4.19+105+deb10u5 is the version of linux-image-amd64.
