Super low BW on WiFi (DL only) with Intel 8260 and stretch

Postby 0tt0 » 2020-07-23 22:37

Hi,

I got some problems getting WiFi working acceptably on stretch. Have had some bizarre bandwidth problems only when running WiFi, wasn't even aware at first until I noticed problems with pic quality while streaming vids and doing video conferencing.

When testing using an online bw testing tool I got some 20 Mbps up (correct) and some.. 1-2 Mbps down (not very correct). I first thought it was problems with gw/ISP or whatever but trial and error testing quickly singled out the Debian install of 9.13 as the problem. And as it so happens, this laptop is dual boot set up with Win10 and that works flawlessly with WiFi so HW doesn't seem to be the problem.

After doing some googling I quickly find that these problems with Debian/Ubuntu and crawling WiFi seems not so uncommon unfortunately.

I have tried to do some reinstalling and reloading modules etc but no. BT not active.

I haven't tried installing from backports yet though.

Any pointers helping me save some troubleshooting time appreciated, love to surf a little quicker than 1-2 Mbps.

TIA,
Jorgen

There are several tweaks you can try with the iwlwifi driver. Search the boards and you will find them (you should have done that before posting).

Debian stretch now only has coverage from the LTS team so you should probably upgrade to buster anyway.
