RAID1 LVM or MD

Postby alikzn101 » 2020-10-15 17:35

HI Guys

I recently read you can setup RAID with LVM instead of using LVM on top of MD.
Is this a common setup ?

Thanks

Of course You can setup Raid1 with LVM, and Raid1 is pretty "neutral" in the sense that it merely performs parallel writes to all the "member" drives/partitions.
It's not clear to Me what do You mean by "common setup" - do You expect to get some kind of statistics? - that's not going to happen, because the number of possible solutions approaches the number of users ;)

Definitely LVM is more flexible than MD in managing the volumes, but on the other hand MD is much "cheaper" (faster) when it comes to synchronisation after the volume is replaced, especially when some volumes are connected over network (MD also allows to create Raid arrays using networked devices)
