slow CIFS share on Debian, not Macos

Postby dormant » 2021-01-02 17:51

I have a slow cifs share on two different Debian machines, one running Buster and the other running Testing.

Here is a speed test using dd
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/mvofls2/Seismic_Data/tmp/tmp2.img bs=512 count=10000
10000+0 records in
10000+0 records out
5120000 bytes (5.1 MB, 4.9 MiB) copied, 0.145573 s, 35.2 MB/s

I get about 10x the speed on my Macbook Pro
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/Volumes/Seismic_Data/tmp/tmp2.img bs=512 count=10000
10000+0 records in
10000+0 records out
5120000 bytes transferred in 0.022351 secs (229072253 bytes/sec)

The share is mounted on the mac in Finder, no options given.

The share on Debian is mounted in /etc/fstab like this (copied from a machine which I now have no access to).
//MVOFLS2/Seismic_Data /mnt/mvofls2/Seismic_Data cifs auto,user=XXXXXX,password=XXXXXX,uid=seisan,gid=users,domain=MVO,vers=2.1,noperm,soft 0 0

I tried using vers= 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, with no change in the speed.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
