Dual Xeon slower than Single Xeon for Samba Upload???

#1 Post by flls »

2 machines : Dual Xeon 3 G , 2G Ram, Debian 3.1 ,kernel 2.6.8-2-686-smp; Single Xeon 3G , 2G Ram, Debian 3.1, kernel 2.6.8-2-686.

I don't understand why in Samba upload the Single CPU used less time.
I havn't tried other appications.
Any idea?

Usually, the network speed has little to do with processor speed; there is no processor used in network traffic. You should check your network cards.

I monitored the network but found nothing special. I'm really puzzled.

Btw, this is not because of the hyperthread.

Any idea would be appreciate.

You need a threaded samba and be running a smp kernel for both processors to work together and provide awesome performance. Apt-get the smp version of the kernel. Samba is already threaded.
