Mbox vs Maildir

#1 Post by FlapJacksonInTheMorning »

What is the concensus on using mbox vs Maildir for mail? I'm just setting up my first Debian server with the hopes it will replace my main server which is Gentoo, and I've been using Maildirs (first with Exim and then with Postfix) and for someone like me who keeps years of mail on my mailserver, Maildir seems to make more sense because each message is stored in a file instead of the entire mailbox in one file (i.e. should file corruption occur, I'd rather lose one email than the whole mailbox).

However, searching this forum for "Maildir" produces zero results.

I'd like to hear from some people who use mbox consciously and for a specific reason, and I'd like to know why.
