No Internet after update and download of openoffice.org2

#1 Post by fiest »

Hi, folks,
Since the update i cant get on-line unless i run the following at a terminal after i log in.

Code: Select all

modprobe -r dmfe (this is the driver for the ethernet card)
modprobe -r tulip (this is something to do with it as well..im not sure what)
modprobe dmfe
modprobe tulip
ifup eth0
if i run the above comands everything works.

I'm using debian testing running kde. this all started after i tried to download openoffice.org 2 from unstable. hey, it worked on my other 2 computers. Nothing i have read tells me how to chase this down any further or what config files would put this right.

the module howto and Ethernet howto, make me think the problem is somewhere in the detection , assignment, or loading process of drivers/modules and hardware.

Below is a clipped version of my /var/log/messages.

before the modprobe stuff

Code: Select all

Dec 2 08:46:05 localhost kernel: eth0: Davicom DM9102/DM9102A rev 64 at 0001d800, 00:08:A1:6F:53:96, IRQ 9.
what the heck is 0001d800 ??

after the modprobe stuff (this is when it starts working)

Code: Select all

Dec 2 10:03:02 localhost kernel: eth0: Davicom DM9102 at pci0000:01:03.0, 00:08:a1:6f:53:96, irq 9.

I really would appreciate any info that would fix this or would give me a better idea of just what exactly is going on. Thanks
