i'm planning to installing debian sarge on a dell sc420 poweredge server
Intel P4 3.2 HT
250gb SATA HD
2 x 1GB ram dual channel.
will i need to recompile my 2.6 kernel for full support of this hardware?
what kernel parameters would i need to set?

A priori, no. You have to see how it works after the installation.
what kernel parameters would i need to set?
Again, a priori, none.
For both questions, observe how it works after the installation.
A nice way to check it is checking 'dmesg' output.
If the boot process hangs at some point, check the last message displayed.
