Configuring IRCD

Postby Coniferous » 2004-10-29 12:27

Now, my issue is with installing ircd, i did this one, using the apt get command

Code: Select all
apt-get install ircd

Now, i think i had screwed up the configuration file pretty bad, so i used apt get to remove it, then re install it again.

the old configuration file was still there.

i deleted the /etc/ircd folder, and tried installing it again in hopes that it would recreate the ircd.conf.

it didnt. now it wont even start..

does anyone know how to install ircd and make sure that it creates a ircd.conf file?

and past that i need some help configuring it too

thanks for any help in advance, i owe you people. :)

What you can do is performing a search on you hd for an example ircd.conf file, generally provided in a doc directerory.
Then copy the conf file to the appropriate /etc directory.
Most likely there will be given several examples, provided with comments near the several options.

You can try to purge the ircd package:

Code: Select all
apt-get remove --purge ircd

and then reinstall it.

The purge parameter deletes all config files etcetera.
