Stretch Gnome Right-click compress ZIP w/ password

Postby MarkDees » 2018-02-14 19:30

Hi,

In Jessie, I could right-click on a folder, compress and then the UI had an option for more details where I could specify a ZIP password.

In Stretch, right-click Compress gives options for .ZIP, .tar.gz or .7z but no option for password.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark

Maybe the GNOME developers though that option was too advanced for the users so they removed it.
Now you should use the command line,
Code: Select all
zip -9 -e <zipfile.zip> -r <dir>

Thanks!

I found this as a work around https://askubuntu.com/questions/969650/how-to-make-nautilus-use-file-roller-in-17-10-like-in-17-04

It puts compress under a submenu, but it's better than nothing. I like CLI, but it's nice to have this in the GUI.

I suggested to the Gnome people to give us more flexibility to do this in a future rev.

Thanks,

Mark
