I can start GNOME only one time

#1 Post by Guest »

hi

I have Debian Sarge Stable.
I don't start GNOME by default.
If GNOME is nedeed, I can start GNOME without any problems
with startx, but only for one time.
If I do log off of the GNOME, I cannot start it anymore
and only reboot helps.
100 times to reconfigure with:

Code: Select all

# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
doesn't help !

kind regards

What do you mean, you can't start it? Nothing at all happens?
Does it work OK as other user?
Has it always been like this?
Does it work for root?
Does it do the same with other window managers?
Do you have a new home directory, or do you have some old config files there?

If Gnome tries to start (eg: Your session only lasted 10 seconds) this is typical of setting problem in your home directory try removing your ~.ICEauthority file to see if that is the problem.
If this is not the problem, then try renaming your ~.gnome2 directory to try to find where the problem is.

If you give more info about your problem it will help other people with the same problem.
