gnome log files

#1 Post by caduceus »

OS = Debian 7.3 default install. pre-installed on z reason machine

while looking at gnome Log File Viewer.
left column or pane, syslog.

while looking at current date the app will automatically jump back to the previous date, another completely different page, annoying.

Question: Where is the config file for gnome log file. Or any Gnome software.

I have looked at the file for packages, gnome-system-log and gnome-packagekit.

There are no files in /etc for either package.

the one and only man page available gnome-system-log is slim for info and shows etc/syslog.conf of which does not exist and associated SEE ALSO man pages do not exist.

Gnome help files are slim with actual config info.

Please allow me to know where the conf files are hidden at.

I can see from looking at files in /user/share/polkit-1/actions
and
/usr/share/glib/-2.0/schemas

That Gnome seems to make heavy use of XML for a main program, located some where to read.

any assistance ?
Thanks

I found that using dconf-editor and search for syslog, you will find all the files that system-log opens. That is provided you are using the gnome-system-log viewer.
