I stand corrected!rhy7s wrote:Would you not class MATE as such?stevepusser wrote:I have not seen any important desktop environments ever get into the debian-backports repo..
Since there is precedent, maybe someone could request it on the backports mailing list, then, once it makes it into Debian. So far the Wheezy-based MX testers have not found any problems with it. It's supposed to build on the current Jessie 4.10 base libraries, so they would not even have to rebuild most of the current Jessie xfce packages. I decided to do the 4.12 base libraries, though, so that meant just about everything had to be rebuilt.

Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
We are fairly close to finishing the Wheezy-based MX 14.4 release, with those 4.12 packages:

I am pretty sure that if you just enable wheezy-backports and our 4.12 repo, you should be able to upgrade on Wheezy. Though MX is currently only on 32-bit, there are also 64-bit packages in the repository. The final URL of the repo is still in flux, so hang on a bit.

Nice video. That's lot of support for stable users. Thanks your efforts. Will a version be available for Jessie too before the regular arrival.stevepusser wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08Mp8Wq ... e=youtu.be

Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
Debian must be more strict on the dependencies, since I had to rebuild all the plugins against the 4.12 panel library headers to get them to work. You are supposed to be able to build 4.12 against the 4.10 base libraries also, then the panel plugins won't need a rebuild, but we went for upgrading the whole shebang.

Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
If is that possible to avoid reading the whole thread, could you please let me know if is there a repository to install Xfce4.12 to Debian stable? Thanks a lot!
Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
Yeah, because your time is valuable. You have better, more important things to do than read.g1annos wrote:If is that possible to avoid reading the whole thread...
Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
Thanks mate. Really worthwhile contribution! As you see in my first message i has thanking you in advance. The possibility that I cannot speak or undestanad english as native is something you may consider? Because I don't think that a person that has enough time to post 5400messages in 4 years in a forum, can conceive of somebody whose time is valuable.
Anyway, is there anybody to let me know if is there a repository to install Xfce4.12 on Debian stable because I didn't really unsterstand much from what I've read? The friend above seems he doesn't really want to help.

This is the one it's currently in:
but it's going to change within a few days.
Of course, try a simulated install first:
Code: Select all
deb http://main.mepis-deb.org/mepiscr/mx-test/ xfce-4.12 test

I've better have to wait for a few days as you said. There is a GPG error occuring for me.
Where is gonna be announced if the new repository is up?
Thank's anyway!
Code: Select all
W: GPG error: http://main.mepis-deb.org xfce-4.10 Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 81E77EAF14E225A0

Hi g1annos. You can always add the key manually if you trust the server. Read this https://wiki.debian.org/SecureAptg1annos wrote:I've better have to wait for a few days as you said. There is a GPG error occuring for me.Where is gonna be announced if the new repository is up?Code: Select all

Also, I'm uncertain if you have the right repo, since you are getting a "4.10" in the error message.g1annos wrote:I've better have to wait for a few days as you said. There is a GPG error occuring for me.Where is gonna be announced if the new repository is up?Code: Select all

I'll announce the new location when it goes online, it should be within a few days. We have a really nice little applet in the main MEPIS repo, maintained by kmathern, that will search the online keyservers, then automatically get and install those keys.

Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
Xfce 4.12 is now in the main MEPIS community repository, see the link in my sig.
We have boatloads of other backports in there, so you'll very probably not want them all. You might try a simulated install of
and make sure you don't get any older xfce packages without the mx140 tacked onto the versioning. There are also some appearance issues that may affect you, such as QT4 programs becoming ugly as Windows 95, but there are simple tweaks for that in here:
http://mepiscommunity.org/migration
Basically, you add those two lines to the Trolltech config file in your ~/.config folder. If you want Qt4 apps running as root to look better, edit root's version of that file.
Warning--make sure you get a full upgrade of the xfce4 desktop. You will not be able to log back in if xfce-session is held back for some reason.

Re: xfce4 4.12 is released
What does it mean? Actually, I did the simulated installation and everything seemed to be alright. So, I proceeded to the upgrade and rebooted. Indeed the login manager was loaded but after that there was a grey screen (maybe the background color of my desktop) and a working cursor but nothing more. Not eve the desktop shortcuts were working. Do I miss something?Warning--make sure you get a full upgrade of the xfce4 desktop. To restore I opened a terminal (Alt+Ctl+F1) and totally removed xfce and all it's components, then changed the sources.list (comment the mx and uncomment the testing xfce repo) and reinstall xfce 4.10, and everything is like before. But what's the problem to upgrade to 4.12?
