Show in Folder / Show Directory feature

#1 Post by InOrder »

Hello,

First off, thank you all for the unbelievable operating system embodying the idea of ultimate liberty and reliability.. I do value and respect the effort you make a lot!

I'm a Python Dev and a quite experienced Debian user, though I'm still experiencing a couple of kinda basic glitches I hope you guys help me to resolve.

1) Show in Folder / Show Directory feature
Any browser has it but for some reason it ONLY works consistently in XFCE desktop environment -- particularly Version 4.10 (see 2
In GNOME 3.14.1 this feature (Chrome / Chromium / WingIDE / Firefox) OFTEN simply does nothing, but sometimes it just works..

I'm open to both suggestions to change the Desktop Environment or somehow fix that. Particularly, for Chrome.

Could you please also recommend me a desktop environment that has a start menu with a lookup field that helps finding installed programs?

I don't use DE's. but a WM instead. Any way,
you don't need a Desktop Environment to do this :
--- a lookup field that helps finding installed programs?
Simple, just use the terminal, and it works in any DE.

Code: Select all

 dpkg-query -l

I solved it myself.. :D

PCManFM file manager did the job. It's way faster and much nicer than the default GNOME's one.

sudo apt-get install pcmanfm and launch it
AND
then go to computer:/// > Devices > File System > Open with..
AND
choose PCManFM AND check Set selected app as Default

Good luck!
