No sound on Jessie / ASUS X555

#1 Post by poubapub »

Hi,
I just installed Jessie in an external drive on my ASUS X555 Laptop using the 3.16 DVD. I had no sound at all after installing.
Following advices on various forums, I've installed firmware-intel-sound, pavucontrol
In pavucontrol, I see the volume bar moving for the Rythmbox application, but nothing comes out of my internal speakers.
Sometimes when I boot I have sound, but after rebooting it doesn't work anymore, once I also had beeps when firefox search doesn't find what I search on a page.
Very weird problem.
Can someone help me ?

You have a hardware problem, so let's see what you have. Install inxi and give us the result of "inxi -F".

Not sure my hardware has a problem because sound works perfectly in W10. Anyhow:

It's a hardware problem in Debian 8 because the 2014-vintage kernel and drivers can't support your 2016 Skylake hardware except in a very crippled way. There is a reasonably simple method to install packages from jessie-backports to get everything working; it requires using the terminal and pasting commands into it from a guide here:

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=131611

If you want to get your Optimus switchable graphics going with the Nvidia proprietary driver, you should also follow the guide for Bumblebee in the Debian wiki, but install all the packages they require from jessie-backports also.

Also, it's a very bad idea to run commands as root when that's not specified. I can tell you ran "inxi -F" as root...
