Installing NVIDIA proprietary drivers on Debian 8

#1 Post by fsr_ »

Hi

I have a nvidia 300m, and open drivers (Gallium 0.4 on NVA8).

I wish to install the proprietary ones. I've followed many tutorials and downloaded the drivers from several sources (official and non-official) and i still get the same input. I install it, and the system tells me to restart so the modules and headers will be updated. I restart the system and this blank screen with a "ooops" face appears, saying something went wrong.

Can you help me.

I got a Asus K50IE and Debian 8.

Thanks in advance.

Can you tell us which driver versions and where they came from. Just so we don't repeat what you've already tried.

As you are new to the fourms, please have a gander at this post.

We will need much more information about the steps you have taken and the hardware of your machine so we can help you.

According to Asus's webste; the Nvidia card is discrete. Which may mean you have an optimus setup. https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/K50IE/

Please post:

Code: Select all

$ lspci | grep 'VGA'
If you have an Intel and a Nvidia card you will need to look into Bumblebee.

We can't read your mind to find out what's going on with the tutorials (the shadow government filling out too many forms for me to use the psionic equipment casually), so we'll need the terminal output of what happens when you follow each and every step in the Debian wiki for installing the driver in order to see what's going on.

I suspect that the lack of a kernel module build environment is going to be the issue.
