Hi,
I have updated from jessie to stretch. If I use awesome I am not able to use characters like | oder \ neither in the terminal or in writer. The rest of the keyboard-layout is okay, so I am able to use the special German characters. If I chose Gnome instead of awesome it is smoothly and the characters like pipe or backslash work. Have got anyone an idea what I can do?
Thank you in advance!

Update to Stretch / awesome/Gnome special characters
Re: Update to Stretch / awesome/Gnome special characters
Probably the solution is to press and hold Alt Gr at the same time you press another key; for example Alt Gr-Q to get an @.
Which other key you need to press I don't know. Why don't you experiment?

[solved]Re: Update to Stretch / awesome/Gnome special charac
Thanks for your answer, Caitlin, but I have solved the problem meanwhile.
If other people get the same problem:
xmodmap -pke > .Xmodmap
keycode 108 = Alt_R Meta_R ISO_Level3_Shift
(original after update to stretch: keycode 108 = ISO_Level3_Shift)
Problem solved!

Doesn't the manual page explain it well enough for you Caitlin?Caitlin wrote:Hmmm --
It sounds like I could use some of that myself. Where is all this documented, please?

Since the command you had questions about was xmodmap, perhaps trying "man xmodmap" would help you to understand what bengoshi did.Caitlin wrote:Which man page?
