can onl log into desktop environment with root

hi i just installed debian 9 from 8 installed a few things and now cant log into mate or any other desktop environment unless im root i have tried deleting my user then adding a new user again but nothing works when i log in the screen gos black and then just brings me back to login screen anyone else have this problem? or better yet anyone know how to fix it?

Check is /home mounted and /home/user exist, and layout is en when you are entering password.

solved this problem by creating a new user and that account could log in
