New wallpaper problem with Stretch Xfce
I've got Stretch 686 pae, with Xfce, running on an old Dell laptop. It was not an upgrade from Jessie. Just before I upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2, I noticed that I could no longer access "Desktop" directly from the "Settings" menu and expect it to work....... most of the wallpapers don't show, or appear correctly, and clicking on anything does nothing. I get one wallpaper that's totally black, for instance. If I access "Desktop" from the "Settings Manager" it works fine.
Please note, this is not the problem that people are having where everything is greyed out.
Any ideas on what is wrong with it?

Ok, over the time I've been at work I would have thought I would have a response. Is there something I'm being unclear about, or need to explain further?

Something that occurred to me later, I believe the program is actually crashing. I can't even close it normally. If I try to close it, I get the window/program is not responding message and do I want to close it?

The command to restart the desktop is
Code: Select all
xfdesktop -R

It's a laptop, it gets rebooted all the time.stevepusser wrote:The command to restart the desktop is

Re: New wallpaper problem with Stretch Xfce
I decided to switch wallpapers again, and tried to try access "desktop" from the settings menu instead of the settings manager, just to see if it would work. It did work, so apparently one of the updates that's occurred since starting this thread fixed the problem for me.

that command doesn't reboot, it restarts the desktop manager.No_windows wrote:It's a laptop, it gets rebooted all the time.stevepusser wrote:The command to restart the desktop is

(but i'm a bit late with that)

Yes,I know. However the desktop gets restarted on a reboot. Honestly, I don't know why the command was pointed out in the first place. It didn't seem to do anything, but the desktop manager was already running so....?debiman wrote:that command doesn't reboot, it restarts the desktop manager.No_windows wrote:It's a laptop, it gets rebooted all the time.stevepusser wrote:The command to restart the desktop is

I suspect people do not really know what I'm talking about, but since it seems to be fixed after more recent updates, I'm not going to worry about it.

Nothing was solved, there's no solution here. It' simply started working correctly after a few weeks.debiman wrote:you said it's fixed.

Does not need to be, it points you towards possible solutions from an ongoing Xfce problem that pops every so often...

I'm going to stick with looking for solutions that match the problem.HuangLao wrote:No_windows wrote:Not the same problem...
