mate desktop keypad not working
hi. i have an installation of debian 9.2 mate amd64. The problem is that i cannot make keypad to work. i did install numlockx but still the keypad it does not. any ideas please?
Re: mate desktop keypad not working
it is the numeric keypad at the side of the QWERTY keyaboard that has a numlock button for on/off.
unfortunatelly mine it does not work even when i press the numlock button.

Re: mate desktop keypad not working
if it doesn't work AT ALL, meaning nothing is printed to e.g. your terminal when you push the keys? NOTHING?
then either your keyboard is not properly recognized by linux, or your hardware is broken.
it should output SOMETHING, regardless of NumLock's state.

the keyboard is working apart from the numeric keypad at the side.
Re: mate desktop keypad not working
I have an asus laptop running sid + mate. It has a number keypad. If numlock is ON then the pad keys do nothing except move the cursor up-down-left-right. When numlock is OFF all the keys works as they are supposed to do. Check your keyboard, the numlock key may be broken, i.e. stuck ON.

well that is SOMETHING in my book.TonyT wrote: then the pad keys do nothing except move the cursor up-down-left-right.
so NOTHING at all from the keypad?atux_null wrote:the keyboard is working apart from the numeric keypad at the side.
if your keyboard isn't physically broken, i suspect you have a non-standard device that needs a different driver/setup etc. (you know when you get asked during installation which keyboard model you have).
just a suspicion though.
anyhow, my logic tells me that in that case numlockx cannot help.
Re: mate desktop keypad not working
Hi debiman. The device that debian has been installed is a DELL laptop that has WIN7 as dual boot. In win7 and previously in ubuntu mate the numeric keypad worked without any issues. Now that i have debian 9.2 installed the numeric keypad at the side of the keyboard it does not work at all. Is there a setting that i am missing?
If i reboot the system to win7 or to an ubuntu live cd then the numeric keypad works as deigned.
any ideas on how to overcome this issue, please?
