I wonder which Desktop, my guess is Huge icons = Gnome, and that maybe was by design.
But it might be KDE as well, who knows ?

If it is Gnome: How to change the ICON size on gnome
Lot's of results, seems like a lot of people want to know how to do this.

If not Gnome, then you can either let us know more details, and / or simply replace
"gnome" with the DE name, and try the same search string.

You are right: mine is a GNOME 3.22.2
I changed the icon size on Nautilus and all the desktop icons resized.

Thanks!

yeah that's gnome for you - always trying to "simplify" things for the user.

That's because Nautilus handles the desktop (which is kinda obvious). When I need the desktop, I let SpaceFM handle it; which is, in my opinion, much better. Other file-managers might also let you do this. If you find Nautilus too simplistic then you might consider switching to another file-manager or changing the DE itself (MATE is the obvious choice).
The source code for the kernel, library, etc. should fit on one diskette. Sources for the GNU utilities will vary (and will be big). The sources to GNU emacs will take at least 3 disks. -- Theodore Ts'o, 1992 (distributing the first Linux disks)
