Most applications make use of CTRL+PgUp/PgDn to move up/down a stack of tabs. It is a real PITA that gedit does not conform with this standard that is practiced everywhere else.
This gnome bug report says that gedit does not honor this informal standard because of GtkTextView (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=615578).
What is GtkTextView? Why is priority given to GtkTextView when I've never heard of it and I'm not even sure I use it. Why doesn't GtkTextView use the CTRL+ALT+PgUp/Dn keyboard shortcut? Why is Gnome won't fixing that bug report in favor of GtkTextView?

Why doesn't gedit use CTRL+Pg-Up/Dn to switch between tabs?
Re: Why doesn't gedit use CTRL+Pg-Up/Dn to switch between ta
To be in the same league with you, I'd ask why anyone uses Gnome and gedit? FYI, gedit is open source, feel free to modify it the way you like it.
Re: Why doesn't gedit use CTRL+Pg-Up/Dn to switch between ta
My lack of ability to modify gedit to my preference appears to answer my question.
What DE and text editor do you use?

GtkTextView is one of the GTK widgets, one of the building blocks that gedit is built from.
so the answer you received is valid, you just didn't understand it.
incidentally, thanks for telling me about this keyboard shortcut, i didn't know it.
there's many ways to switch between tabs in various apps, and this one seems to be working consistently.
also on geany.

No DE, here, text editor's "leafpad", "joe" (my favorite) "pico" and "nano".What DE and text editor do you use?
OpenBox window manager, on Debian Wheezy ,
No DE on my minix 3 system, text editor "nano", WindowManager= FVWM
Don't know why "gedit" does not use CTRL+Pg-Up/Dn to switch between tabs?
I stopped using it a few years ago, along with Gnome.
Like wise, since I am not very advanced, and not a "super user", I had toPost by kcbagr » 2017-12-18 09:10

find other editors, and stopped using the DE's, I am not advanced enough
to be able to figure them out.

Gedit is pretty close to Ctrl + PageUp or Ctrl + PageDown.
At least Ctrl + Alt + PageUp, or Ctrl + Alt + PageDown is about as close as you can get for switching between tabs.
Not hard to remember.
