Hi,
recently I have noticed that text is missing from the gnome system menu, look at the screenshot in the link. I have a wired network connection active and icon is missing from the top bar.
I run Debian testing on a Thinkpad x230 (Intel 3520M, integrated graphics) and I'm using X11 (not Wayland), no other apps show the problem.
Do any of you run into this?

No such thing here in Stretch GNOME. I've seen status icons disappear on Fedora on 3.26, though.
Re: Missing text and icons from gnome system menu
that's a nice screenshot, some sort of gnome default setup?
but i don't see anything missing.
which is kind of the point i guess - i can't see it, because it's missing!
i guess i was expecting gaping holes.
so, what exactly is missing?
could it be an icon theme issue? have you been gnome-tweaking? tweaking makes gnome angry!

No, it is a minor bug in GNOME 3.26. Icons are missing, example, icon for wi-fi was missing when I used 3.26. No impact on functionality, AFAIK.

Its the default GNOME setup on testing, I've just set a wallpaper.debiman wrote:that's a nice screenshot, some sort of gnome default setup?

Here is how the menu and icons should look: https://imgur.com/QjQ97Gh
