upgrade to debian 9 - kmail konqueror issues

#1 Post by user2000 »

hello debian users,
I have upgraded to debian 9 but there are a few things that don't work:

kmail
after quitting kmail and trying to restart it always starts in background. I say so because I can see a kmail process typing ps aux but no kmail on screen. The only way to get kmail on screen is to manually stop the kmail process and start kmail again.

Kgpg
Strange enough, Kgpg refuses to start.

konqueror
It is unable to play sound in youtube videos; it is also unable to make full screen videos. This is strange because Firefox does both things very well. If it is a configuration issue, I cannot trace it. I looked at konqueror settings, and mozilla plugins seem to be loaded.

At first kmail and kgpg I remember worked well for a while, so I thought I must have done something wrong but:

#apt-get -f install
says there is nothing to do.
# apt-get show kde-standard
says it is installed.
I have reinstalled a lot of packages including kde-standard without success. Looking at apt logs reveals nothing.

Any help will be appreciated.

kmail update

#2 Post by user2000 »

hello all,
just an update for the records:

looking in internet I found an opensuse user talking about a similar problem and stating he could start kmail form console. I can confim that.
I can start e quit kmail serveral times form console without spawning a new process. Here is what kmail prints:

Pass a valid window to KWallet::Wallet::openWallet().
this does not work on a KActionCollection containing actions!
