Well, even though it says "solved", Dillo is also a pretty good browser,
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/dillo

I can't use Chrome nor Chromium, they just don't work on my system.

it's not surprising that slimjet is a modified chromium, most of the ligtweight alternative browsers are (Opera, Vivladi, Yandex, Cent, Torch, Comodo Dragon, Epic melt, and most (if not all) alternative, lightweight, privacy whatever browsers for Android, like opera mini, lightning, etc). They often are based on a really outdated chromium base code also.

I'd recommend Pale Moon. Works very well on this P4 box.

When it comes to browsers, you really don't want to use obscure ones. Staying current with security and general usability updates is mandatory in today's world.
Choice is simple for Linux users, it's either Chrome/Chromium or Firefox.

Mandatory may be too strong a word. Advisable might be better. Yeah, I know; it's a bit picky. The thing is I like to configure a browser to my needs. That includes the way it looks. I simply don't like Chromium. One can come up with long lists of pros and cons but i just don't like it. I presently use Waterfox which I have been able to manipulate more to my liking, not perfect but it's comfortable. Slimjet is faster, maybe the fastest I've ever used but I keep making mistakes with sloppy mouse strokes when using it; veto! The latest Firefox? Maybe but not yet.

BTW, on all browsers I would love to move the address bar back to the top of the page. I will never use an address bar for searching so I want it up and out of the way.

I like it and use it occasionally. Pale Moon is one of the more configurable browsers which makes it comfortable to use.

Yes, the address bar is at the top where it belongs!

Followup. By chance I found that running Slimjet in user-space doesn't work with Debian's kernel 4.9 as provided for Stretch. It does work with Liquorix kernels 4.14 and 4.15. I don't know why. I also don't know if this happens with other browsers.
