Hello there, just bought an Acer A515 laptop with a core i7 8550 u and an Nvidia mx 150 hybrid graphics setup as my daiy driver. I have been running gnome shell on debian for ages and I am not into gaming or into getting the most out of my graphics setup. A smooth gnome-shell experience in Buster is what I am looking for and seem to run into glitches. First and foremost perfomance is a bit poor - if I disable wayland via editing /etc/gdm3/deamon,conf things get a bit better and I am able to refresh the session, launch synaptic without having to resort to

but the laptop will freeze whenever I am trying to log out /power off etc. Next move was to mess with bumblebee and nouveau or with the proprietary nvidia driver failing in fashion both times (u know the usual boot freeze - oh no sometging has gone wrong messages and so forth). As far as I am aware nvidia and bumblebee is hopeless on new hardware like my Mx150 gpu. In the end, I did a clean install of Buster and have to make do with the odd hiccups and the Intel igpu. I am not into moving to another DE I am dual booting with W10 pro and works like a charm. Has anybody else encoutered simillar issues or managed to get nouveau working properly? Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated. For reference only I am attaching my dmesg output.

Yes firmware-misc-nonfree and firmware-linux-nonfree are installed but still I was getting the message that i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin was missing as mentioned at http://debian.2.n7.nabble.com/Bug-89826 ... 23951.html as well as the nvidia gp 108 firmware. I found them both at https://github.com/wkennington/linux-firmware and moved them to

. I have no idea if it is nouveau or kernel related. As far as I can see I still have not came accross anyone with a debian-based distro who has managed to get hybrid graphics sorted with bumblebee and nvidia on a new (late 2017) gpu like mine. What if I move away from wayland and try stretch with gnome-shell 3.22 will it make any difference (possibly will have to install compile a more recent kernel than 4.9 for better hardware support) ?

and since switcheroo seems fine I can right click and launch any app with the dedicated nvidia gpu via nouveau and switcheroo-control at will? Also under wayland I don't get any serious glitches and freezes so if that is the case I am more than happy with that scenario - no need for bumblebee nvidia proprietary and eveything :D

This Pointer to TMDS table invalid is a bit alarmng. Since I an getting lost, with the aid of switcheroo and nouveau I can launch apps using the dedicated gpu as posted previously or this happens dynamically?
