Liquorix 4.18.10 [Solved]
Liquorix 4.18.10 [Solved]
Dear All,
I already posted a question about the liquorix kernel.
I like it and it has never let me down...so far!
Today I installed it on two different machines (both running debian stable).
Version 4.18.09 is what I am using now because 4.18.10 installs on my machines, but then it does not boot (I do not know where to find the log files for that).
I am puzzled: the difference with respect to the previous version has to be minimal so I wonder what the problem could be.
Nothing else has changed on my machines (I have simply installed the new liquorix today).
Any idea?
Cheers

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10
It's now up to 4.18-11, if that new version would make any difference.
Exactly what happens when you say "it won't boot"? Any text on the screen at all after GRUB, or does it just go black?
FWIW, I'm running the backported 4.18-11 right now, and didn't have any problems with 4.18-10 during the week I ran it.

Re: Liquorix 4.18.0-10.2
Hi!
Thanks for the quick response.
I am very confused: yesterday I got a black screen on both of my machines when booting the liquorix kernel.
Today, on one of them, I have just removed the repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/. I then reinstalled the liquorix jernel re-adding the repos as explained on the liquorix page and everything works.
$ uname -r
4.18.0-10.2-liquorix-amd64
I will try the same on the other machine and...either mark this as solved or post again.

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10
Just a heads up for any proprietary Nvidia video driver users, you'll get a GCC version missmatch error if you try and use the Sid version on Stretch to build the drivers, since it's built against gcc-8.
Then we've had questions here on how to install gcc-8 on Stretch as a kludgy workaround, when the correct solution is to use the Liquorix kernels that have been backported to Stretch, as detailed in a sticky on the Liquorix forums.

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10
Well, now it also works on my other machine.
I may be wrong, but perhaps the issue was with kernel 4.18.0-10.1 whereas the latest 4.18.0-10.2 is OK.
On two different machines (workstation and laptop) I have vastly differently output and I try to stay as far as possible from nvidia proprietary drivers (they give me always a headache!).

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10
The change log for the latest 10.2 notes this:
so that's probably the fix. Somebody opened a thread on the MX Linux forums about their same issue with -10.1, so I just uploaded the-10.2 builds to our test repo.* revert 4.18.11-rc patches, causes nvidia drm kernel oops

Liquorix sure fit the task when mention about Linus criticial situation currently.
While others were fighting about CoC, SJW rubbish.
"Liquorix anyone?" popped out in my mind.

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10
siduction has the same problem. Quote from towo, the developer:
https://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=7362.0
Code: Select all
The only change between 4.18.10-towo.1 and 4.18.10-towo.2 is patch-4.18.11-rc1.So propably there is a upstream regression.

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10 [Solved]
Hello,
The same issue (a blank screen) has recently resurfaced with the latest two kernels.
I suppose it is the same matter as before and it will be sorted out eventually, but I wanted to inform the very wise people on this forum!

Re: Liquorix 4.18.10 [Solved]
The latest backported 4.18-26 Liquorix kernel seem to be working fine for MX Linux users. I can only access my Nvidia card for 3D rendering in the background with Bumblebee, but no issues with that with the -26 kernel.
