[SOLVED] Chromium keeps hanging Debian 10

Postby 4joeyirosh1 » 2019-07-20 15:17

Hi!I have upgraded from Debian 9.9 Stretch to Debian 10 Buster 64 bit.

Unfortunately,Chromium periodically hangs for a few seconds especially when streaming a video from webcam.I even fully uninstalled chromium restarted my machine then reinstalled it but the hanging problem persists.

I have the latest version of chromium as per command below

Code: Select all
dpkg -l | grep chromium
ii  chromium                                     73.0.3683.75-1                       amd64        web browser
ii  chromium-common                              73.0.3683.75-1                       amd64        web browser - common resources used by the chromium packages
ii  chromium-sandbox                             73.0.3683.75-1                       amd64        web browser - setuid security sandbox for chromium

Kindly assist in resolving this. Also, where can I find chromium log files for me to do any diagnostics on it?

Have you tried a search on that last question ? Also 'man chromium' might answer it , did you even try ?
Also if you start chromium, or any program , from the terminal, quite often the output in the terminal will reveal error messages, as they occur.
You hardware might be a factor, and it may just be taking a few seconds for everything to load.
Maybe some one is watching you , as well, that might cause a delay at times.

Check ~/.xsession-errors and the systemd journal.

I went to Chromium settings and relaunched hardware acceleration as per video link instructions below and now all is Ok.
