Share internet between an old Nokia cellphone and Debian.

#1 Post by hack3rcon »

Hello,
Can I use the cellphone internet connection on Debian? I have a "Nokia 6120 Classic" cellphone and want to use its internet connection on my Debian. Any special config or application needed?

Thanks.

Yes.

You are special configuration aren't you!

Having spent a decades out of bounds I've suffered satellite and cell for so long that I'm used to it. Now it seems almost viable compared to some wired solutions. My currrent cell connection finally has the capacity to feed all my boxes, most of the time. I hotspot to a wrt router that works backwards and all computers are eth wired into the router, so no debian (or any OS) config at all, just works. Tethering an ancient phone won't be fun. Maybe upgrade to something with wifi.

So is it your limited bandwidth that prompts you to post short obtuse questions here without doing any apparent research?

I'm guessing your phone is too old to use this . . .

Only if your phone allows USB tethering. If it does then it will show up in the output of ip link once it is connected with tethering enabled.

Thanks golinux for posting that link; I have an old Nokia N900 so I'm interested to see there's a development image available for it.
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.
