Why not application's using my manually installed font?

Postby aagontuk » 2019-08-27 22:56

I am using debian buster netinst version. I have installed i3 as my desktop environment. My local language is Bengali. So I have lots of application installed that uses Bengali fonts. For Bengali font rendering I have installed Siyam Rupali font in my system. But after installation, application fonts didn't change! For example below is a screenshot of clementine with incorrect Bengali fonts rendering.

But if I install fonts-beng package Bengali renders beautifully in applications. For example here is a screenshot of clementine after installing mentioned font package.

I have installed Siyam Rupali font properly. Here is the output of the command $ fc-list | grep Siyam
Code: Select all
/home/sfinix/.fonts/Siyamrupali.ttf: Siyam Rupali:style=Regular

I have also ran $ fc-cache after installing fonts.

My question is why fonts aren't working when I am installing manually? But working when I am installing through package manager?

Have you tried
Code: Select all
fc-cache -fv
as recommended in wiki.debian.org: Fonts: Troubleshooting?

Wait. Can you see the manually installed font in clementine, but it has wrong glyphs?
