VLC can't play video streamed from youtube

#1 Post by shogun1234 »

I want to play a video. So I do

Media > Open Network Stream > Paste link to 'Please enter a network URL'

But console prints following error

Code: Select all

[00007f37ec03fe50] lua stream error: Couldn't extract youtube video URL, please check for updates to this script
How can I check for updates to this lua script? What command (e.g. apt-get) I need to execute for updating the script?

vlc version VLC media player 3.0.7.1 Vetinari (revision 3.0.7.1-0-gf3940db4af)
Debian is bullseye/sid

Thanks

I discovered this about a month ago, and posted a manual fix, plus to a link to a patched VLC I built that included the fix, here on these very forums.

So, how much searching of these forums have you done for "vlc + Youtube"?

VLC is also 3.0.8 upstream and back to Stretch, not 3.0.7.

What did you do to end up with that version?
