Hello,
I want to convert a PDF book to EPUB format, but I got below error:
https://pastebin.com/hnfPrDtD
I got the same error about any book.
What is the problem?
Thank you.

Re: Calibre can't convert any book!
PDF to EPUB or MOBI conversion works fine here (Debian 10.3). Looking at the error output, it seems there may be a bad character in the PDF, though that shouldn't abort the whole conversion. Can you get another copy of the PDF? Is it just this one, or have you had the same issue with other PDF's. I've been using Calibre to convert things for a long time and never seen that message.hack3rcon wrote:Hello,

It seems a coding problem. You error file has the line:
Perhaps you can try to convert the file online?
have you tried another pdf??
I have calibre 4.99.4 (latest version) in debian testing and conversion from pdf to epub just works.
Code: Select all
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x8a in position 2691: invalid start byte
have you tried another pdf??

It is a linux problem because Calibre on the Windows OS can convert the file.

such a flawless logic.
You should approach "linux" forum(s) then.

Re: Calibre can't convert any book!
Try some other pdf to make sure it's just that one pdf that has issues.
Try the newest Calibre in buster-backports.
If that still fails, try the static current release you can install from the code from the Calibre home page.
If that fails, then, and only then, get back to us.
