[solved] Howto work with MySQL databases on Buster?

Postby Onsemeliot » 2020-07-15 08:15

Before Buster I just used phpMyAdmin and it installed the needed environment for my purpose but it seems that isn't automatically the case when using Adminer. I expected that Adminer woud install MariaDB by default but it seems to grap sqlite instead. Since I need to prepare stuff that would run on a common web server with MySQL installed I suspect it wouldn't be a good idea to use sqlite to prepare things for it.

So I figured installing MariaDB beforehand would cause the Adminer installation routine to not install sqlite additionally. I don't plan to use Perl but MariaDB wants to install several Perl resources. Is that optional (in case I want to use Perl) or does MaiaDB itself depend on it?
Code: Select all
# apt-get install mariadb-server mariadb-client
...
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  galera-3 libconfig-inifiles-perl libdbd-mysql-perl libdbi-perl
  libhtml-template-perl libterm-readkey-perl mariadb-client
  mariadb-client-10.3 mariadb-client-core-10.3 mariadb-server
  mariadb-server-10.3 mariadb-server-core-10.3 rsync socat
0 upgraded, 14 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 19.8 MB of archives.
After this operation, 163 MB of additional disk space will be used.

https://packages.debian.org/buster/mariadb-server-10.3
shows they are dependencies, you need to let them install.

dep: libdbi-perl
Perl Database Interface (DBI)

and here;https://packages.debian.org/buster/mariadb-server
says the above is a dependencie
dep: mariadb-server-10.3 (>= 1:10.3.22-0+deb10u1)
MariaDB database server binaries

====edit, had the stretch by mistake

Thank you for your quick help, cuckooflew. Unfortunately, I do not always understand everything provided in manuals ...
