[SOLVEDD]Xfce:prevent desktop icons' automatic rearranging?

[list=]ED[/list]Hi,

I am learning to use Debian Buster Xfce (coming from Gnome). Each time I start a session on my NB again, the icons on my desktop have automatically arranged themselves stubbornly in an unwanted order. Even if I check "save session on logout". What gets me is that a second user on this system has desktop icons that stay where he put it. Strange, I created this second user myself, and I don't remember that I did anything special in his session settings :?:

What could be wrong, and how to fix it, please?

Yeah, this is an old bug resulting from logic races at session startup in XFCE.

Thank you, I had tried the chattr solution already, didn't work for me. But the following worked, do not ask me why this is the solution:

I placed a firefox launcher in the top left corner :idea: - as I had done with user2. And, oh wonder, all my other desktop icons stay put now, too, wherever I place them :D

This solution did not survive the next reboot :( I am trying something else and will report back in a few days or so.

P.S. User2 (s.a.) is still fine with his desktop icons.

I prefer the method with locking/unlocking the icons -> it works independently of the panel sizes/launcher locations ;)

Jeesh, how often do you have to do a reboot? Can't you suspend and/or hibernate instead? (yes I know some machines have trouble with suspending or resuming) I've had uptimes of weeks on a laptop.

Just open the desktop launcher file with Your favorite text editor and add the line:
Code: Select all
LockStatus=Locked
;)
This works in 99% of cases - but if You want a solution that works for 100% of cases, then the only way I know of is to restore desktop config on each login - a solution from posts #1 and #8

I fooed around a lot with Google (see my 2nd post 07-20 14:50), e.g., "chattr" was a foo, I am not a foo fighter, so I quit Xfce because it is too foofoo for my humble mind ;)
