[SOLVED] Firefox Download Open Containing Folder launches T

Postby k829king » 2020-07-23 13:27

If I download a file in Firefox, then click on the download link (arrow pointing downwards near top right) and right mouse click and choose "Open Containing Folder" instead of getting PCManFM opening the Download folder I get Thunderbird starting.

I've found
Code: Select all
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/audacious/+bug/1196339

which is along same lines but nothing in there resolves my issue.

my /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache contains
Code: Select all
inode/directory=pcmanfm-qt.desktop;pcmanfm.desktop;

running Debian 10 LXDE

I'm not sure if that affects the Downloads listed. I have a similar issue where PDF files open with GIMP (rather than the system preference of Okular) if I select "Open File" and neither PDF nor GIMP are listed in mimeapps.list. "Open Containing Folder" works fine although I'm on KDE not Xfce.
Haven't worked out how to fix it but haven't tried much either. It's annoying but not life-threatening.

Obvious place to check, in the Firefox toolbar go to Edit, then select Preferences, in the General section scroll-down and there's a section titled Applications. Look that over and try fiddling with them. Have most of them set for Firefox to ask what to do when dealing with x-y-z type of files in mine. Are you using some download manager type of add-on on FF? If so check any settings there too. File managers Thunar and PcmanFm etc, also have controls for stuff like "open this type with" too. Though doubt it's your problem. The first one I've listed here would say is a most likely suspect in resolving the issues you're having.

there were two entries of
Code: Select all
inode/directory=thunderbird.desktop;

I replaced with
Code: Select all
inode/directory=pcmanfm-qt.desktop;pcmanfm.desktop;

now back to normal. I'm guessing the thunderbird entries got created when a created a Thunderbird icon on the desktop

Cool, thanks Hoas, didn't know anything about this thing/file. However this situation violates one of my immutable laws, specifically that being that Hoas is never allowed to be right about anything, so OP am going to need you to unfix things and try fiddling with FF settings instead. :P
