GNOME Terminal 3.38.0 unuseable

Postby rochfort » 2020-09-23 05:40

I run GNOME 3.36.4 on Debian Bullseye. Two days ago GNOME Terminal was automatically updated to 3.38.0. Sine then, it has been unusable. From startup, the background is transparent. If you drag the Terminal window around, it appears to render many windows at the same time. If you open the About window and then close it, the About window persists but appears to be redrawing itself at many different sizes.
This appears to be a bug. I thought I'd wait a few days for an update fix. But none has appeared and nobody has raised a bug.
Has anybody else seen this problem?

The reason for running Testing is to find and report bugs. Report the bug and hope it gets fixed.
Take my advice, I'm not using it.

It seems that you are doomed if you use GNOME 3.38.0-1, you do not use GNOME's Adwaita (default) application theme and you attempt to use GNOME Terminal. The team at GNOME say they "don't like to cater to theme deficiencies". (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/issues/284).
I'm using the Numix application theme. Tough.
